The Recover Out Loud Movement has been loosely organized for 22 years. Fall 2017, it became an organized, focused group with a goal, mission and steps toward a larger purpose. It started in 1994, when Rozell Green, a person in long term recovery with 25 years clean, approached Dr. Andrew Hairston, long-time leader of Simpson Street Church of Christ. Green was seeking a location for her â12-step home groupâ Noonday to meet six days a week. With a simple âyesâ from Dr. Hairston, the relationship between the 12-step and faith-based community began in northwest Atlanta at the corner of then Simpson & Paine streets.
Over the years, more 12-steps groups began meeting in the building. They were attracted to the relationship Noonday had with Simpson Street Church of Christ and the churchâs leadershipsâ willingness to work with the recovery community. Today, approximately 100 people in recovery meet in the building daily; over 600 weekly and over 2400 people meet there monthly. The Crossroads Building has become a beacon of hope for people in recovery in Northwest Atlanta.
In the summer of 2017, Green and her 501 (c)(3) Another Chance of Atlanta, received funding from SAMSHA for National Recovery Month, in part, to produce a documentary, âRecover Out Loud.â Green commissioned journalist Michael Mays to produce a documentary which chronicles the successful stories of people in recovery and our supporters in Northwest Atlanta.
