Recover Out Loud: A 2018 Documentary

Summer of 2017 Another Chance of Atlanta’s Executive Director Rozell Green received funding from SAMSHA for National Recovery Month, in part, to produce a documentary, “Recover Out Loud.”  Green teamed up with Michael Cornell Productions, LLC and commissioned journalist Michael Cornell Mays to produce a documentary which chronicles the successful stories of people in recovery and our supporters in Northwest Atlanta. The documentary takes place in an Atlanta community known as “The Bluff.”

Mack Cook III
A 32 year substance abuse survivor who now spends his time mentoring those in active addiction. Mack graduated from the Fulton County Drug Court in April 2017, and was recently featured in an article called “Number of African-Americans sent to Georgia prisons hits historic lows” in the AJC. He is passionate about recover and is a major speaker in the community. Mack served as a panelist at the 2017 National Recovery Month event hosted by Another Chance of Atlanta, Inc.
Bridgette Lee

Bridgett Lee
As a graduate of the Fulton County Drug Court in 2017, Bridgette now speaks to groups across Atlanta on the harmful effects of substance use. She served as a panelist during the 2017 National Recovery Month at the Fulton County Drug Court hosted by Another Chance of Atlanta, Inc. Bridgette was recently featured in an article called “Georgia Prison Population Drops” where she shared her story of how completing a drug program saved her life. She is currently a full-time student at Atlanta Metropolitan State College and is seeking a degree in social work. 
Lanissa Sudler

Lanissa Sudler
A graduate from a 28 day detox program who currently owns two businesses. Lanissa is the owner and founder of Egypt Essentials a unique costume jewelry company, in addition to operating a debt recovery agency called Millstein & Meyers Associates. She actively mentors and speaks to those in the community who are suffering from the harmful effects of substance abuse. She often organizes fashion and talent shows around metro Atlanta to allow people to see their inner beauty by boosting their confidence and self-esteem.
Steve Gainer

Steve Gainer
As a 15 year substance abuse survivor and a certified peer support specialist with the Georgia Council on Substance Abuse. Steve speaks to those in active addiction on a daily basis. He is a certified addiction recovery empowerment specialist and is certified in HIV and hepatitis testing. Steve spends a lot of his time travelling and educating others on the harmful effects of substance abuse. In 2017, Steve spoke about recovery at the Walker State Prison, Gwinnett Technical College, Georgia Recovery Symposium and the Georgia State-Wide Strategic Planning Meeting.

Tamica Jones
As a 24 year substance abuse survivor, Tamica is determined to share her story to offer hope and motivation to those who are in recovery. She is a prominent speaker at local conventions throughout Atlanta and has a passion for helping newcomers in recovery. In 2016, she served as a guest speaker for the “Little Girl Girls Up” convention in Atlanta’s Westend community. Tamica is a nurse of 27  years and has a natural gift of helping others.

Salmoia is a substance abuse and breast cancer survivor. She spends a lot of her time educating the community on recovery and spending time with her son. She was just recently married.

Quevil Austin
Quevil mentors others as he shares his story of survival throughout the community. He has a passion for helping those in recovery by employing them to work in his cleaning company. Quevil is the owner of “Impressive Cleaning,” a  detailing company that he started a year ago.  He recently became engaged and has a 17-year-old son.

A survivor of homelessness and substance abuse who now spends his time mentoring youth in various prisons. Jeormy is a Southwest Atlanta native who enjoys creating music, writing plays and books.   
Rozell Green

Rozell Green
Rozell serves as the executive director for Another Chance of Atlanta, Inc. She has a passion for helping people and serving the community. As a 25 year substance use survivor she is adamant about making sure those who are in recovery are receiving proper care. Rozell spends her time educating schools, organizations and businesses on recovery. As a leader in the recovery community she actively runs many 12-step programs in the city. She is the mastermind behind the “Recover Out Loud” documentary and hopes that the world will see what recovery is like, as told from those who’ve survived.

Dr. Andrew Hairston
Dr. Hairston serves as the minister at Simpson Street Church of Christ and is a major partner in the recovery community and to Another Chance of Atlanta, Inc.
Kirk Rich

A person in long-term recovery of 27 years who now spends his time mentoring to those who suffer from the dangerous addiction to substance abuse. He is a known speaker at the Fulton County Drug Court.
Regina Jones

Regina Jones
As a 2017 graduate from a local drug and treatment program, Regina is outspoken about her recovery and serves as a leader in the community providing support to others. She currently is taking classes and studying new things. Regina is a proud mother of one son and three grandchildren.
Robert Barber

Robert Barber

Robert Barber
Robert was formerly homeless and battled with years of substance abuse, now he serves as the co-executive director at Atlanta Step-Up Society, Inc. along with his wife. In addition to operating a thrift store he also provides housing for men who have battled the addiction to substance abuse. Robert employs those in recovery and rewards them with a stipend as they complete the 12-step program offered through the Atlanta Step-Up Society.

A journalism student from Georgia State University who as a passion for storytelling. Michael works as a photographer and videographer under his company Michael Cornell Productions, LLC. He will graduate this year with honors and with a degree in multi-media news reporting. He was very instrumental in creating the “Recover Out Loud” documentary and helping the cast to tell their stories.
